What Is OmniRadar?
OmniRadar is a pre-trip dashboard for riders and outdoor enthusiasts in Taiwan. It puts route cameras, coastal waves and tides, mountain temperatures and sunrise times, and weather data together in one place.
Why Did We Build This Site?
Planning a trip used to mean switching between Highway Bureau cameras, CWA weather data, maps, and separate tide and wave forecasts. We created one dashboard for the information you need to decide whether and when to head out.
What Can It Do?
- 📸 Route CamerasSelect a route to view cameras in kilometer order, without hunting for them on a map.
- 🌦️ Weather DataSee nearby station temperatures, rainfall, and wind next to cameras, plus tides, wave height, UV data, and sunrise countdowns in mountain and coastal sections.
- 🚦 Condition IndicatorsLabels such as Favorable, Use Caution, and Not Recommended highlight potential concerns and explain why. They are reference information; you make the final call.
- 📍 Rider ReportsSigned-in riders can report rockfalls, slippery roads, crashes, and other hazards. Other riders can confirm reports, which expire automatically.
What Comes from Official Observations?
The following come from public data provided by government agencies and other organizations. We organize the information without changing the reported values:
- Live Cameras: Highway Bureau and New Taipei City cameras, plus YouTube streams from national parks, national scenic areas, and the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency. Your browser loads footage directly from the source; we do not store or rebroadcast it.
- Weather and Sun Data: Central Weather Administration temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction, rainfall, UV, buoy wave height and sea temperature, tide forecasts, and sunrise/sunset times.
- Road Closures and Access Restrictions: Based on Highway Bureau notices. We manually record standing restrictions and verification dates but do not automatically receive live closures, so the site never labels roads as confirmed open. Check the Highway Bureau's latest information ↗.
Each page shows observation or update times. No assessment is provided when data is more than 3 hours old. See the full Data Sources list (in Chinese).
What Does This Site Estimate?
To make observations easier to use, we calculate the following estimates. Each is labeled "Site Estimate":
- Estimated Road Surface Moisture: Uses rainfall recorded at nearby stations over 1, 3, and 6 hours. After rain ends, 12- and 24-hour totals and humidity help account for slow drying. Near-saturated humidity may indicate damp conditions even when drizzle or fog is not measured by a rain gauge. Nearby slippery-road reports are also considered. Adjustments only move toward wetter classifications; this is not a direct surface measurement.
- Icing and Snow Risk (Mountains): When a high-elevation station reports a temperature below 2°C and humidity above 80%, the site flags an increased potential for ice or snow.
- Marine Condition Indicators: Based on buoy wave height and wind, plus CWA marine and land weather alerts. Ratings are Favorable, Use Caution, or Hazardous. Tide countdowns are shown separately and do not affect the rating.
- Route Indicators and Today's Suggestions: Combine the above information into Favorable, Use Caution, or Not Recommended, with reasons shown.
Rider reports are user-submitted information, neither official observations nor our estimates. They are labeled "Rider Report."
What This Site Cannot Do (Safety & Disclaimer)
- Not a Navigation App: We do not provide turn-by-turn directions or traffic-avoidance routing.
- Not an Official Road Safety Assessment: Indicators and estimates do not replace official notices about closures, hazards, or reopening. Follow Highway Bureau traffic-control announcements.
- Not a Substitute for On-Site Judgment: Conditions in mountains and along the coast change quickly. Cameras and stations can be delayed or offline. Always prioritize actual conditions and your own safety judgment.
⚠️ Do not use this site while riding or driving. Pull over safely before viewing information or sending a report.
