Distances between stations are approximate values calculated along the route geometry (only gas stations within 500 m of the route are counted). OpenStreetMap is edited by volunteers, so stations may be missing or closed; check business hours on site. On remote stretches, plan your fuel carefully rather than relying on this data alone.
Elevation Profile (Tamsui ⇄ Wanghai Lane; highest approx. 88 m, lowest approx. 3 m)
The horizontal axis is distance along the route; the vertical axis is elevation (the height scale is exaggerated, so slopes look steeper than they are). Dots mark cameras (tappable) and stations. Elevation is estimated from AWS terrain data; tunnel and bridge sections are interpolated between their ends, so errors of several tens of meters are possible. For planning reference only.
Map
After opening the map, use the buttons to toggle layers. Dot colors follow the estimated road surface; tap a dot to see weather and the camera. Rainfall, temperature, and wind are from the nearest station to each point; road surface moisture is an estimate. Gas stations, stores, restaurants, and attractions come from OpenStreetMap and only include places near the route; check business hours and conditions on site. For closures and traffic control, rely on the Highway Bureau live traffic information ↗. The route line runs from Tamsui to Wanghai Lane, joined from the OpenStreetMap road network. Supply Stops
Gas stations and convenience stores are frequent along the route, with full services in every town.

The North Coast route follows Highway 2 from Tamsui through Sanzhi, Shimen, Jinshan, and Wanli to Keelung. Much of the road hugs the coast with gentle grades, making it popular for beginners and riders looking for sea views. Tourist traffic can be heavy on weekends, especially around Jinshan and Wanli.
Wind is a major weather factor: northeast monsoons in fall and winter bring strong winds, high surf, and cold, damp conditions, and crosswinds can significantly affect motorcycles. In summer, watch for afternoon thunderstorms. The page uses eight Highway Bureau cameras and nearby station readings for rainfall, temperature, and wind.
Highlights & Attractions
A classic coastal sightseeing route with beaches and cafes. Stops include Qianshui Bay, Baishawan, Shimen Cave, and Yehliu.
Typical Weather
Frequent rain and strong winds in winter; hot, exposed conditions with little shade in summer.
Riding Tips
Long, straight coastal stretches can encourage speeding. Weekend visitors and pedestrians are common, and vehicles near cafes or attractions may make sudden U-turns.
