Distances between stations are approximate values calculated along the route geometry (only gas stations within 500 m of the route are counted). OpenStreetMap is edited by volunteers, so stations may be missing or closed; check business hours on site. On remote stretches, plan your fuel carefully rather than relying on this data alone.
Elevation Profile (Zhiben ⇄ Fenggang; highest approx. 456 m, lowest approx. 5 m)
The horizontal axis is distance along the route; the vertical axis is elevation (the height scale is exaggerated, so slopes look steeper than they are). Dots mark cameras (tappable) and stations. Elevation is estimated from AWS terrain data; tunnel and bridge sections are interpolated between their ends, so errors of several tens of meters are possible. For planning reference only.
Map
After opening the map, use the buttons to toggle layers. Dot colors follow the estimated road surface; tap a dot to see weather and the camera. Rainfall, temperature, and wind are from the nearest station to each point; road surface moisture is an estimate. Gas stations, stores, restaurants, and attractions come from OpenStreetMap and only include places near the route; check business hours and conditions on site. For closures and traffic control, rely on the Highway Bureau live traffic information ↗. The route line runs from Zhiben to Fenggang, joined from the OpenStreetMap road network (some sections follow Prov. Hwy 9E). Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors.

The South-Link Highway follows Highway 9 for about 80 km from Fenggang in Pingtung to Zhiben in Taitung. It crosses the southern end of the Central Mountain Range via Shuangliu and Caopu to Anshuo/Daren, continues through Dawu, and runs along the Pacific past Jinlun and Taimali to Zhiben. The South-Link Improvement Project uses newer tunnels and bridges between Caopu and Anshuo, while the old Shouka route became Highway 9E and remains popular with riders. The page shows eight Highway Bureau cameras in the direction from Fenggang to Zhiben, including one on the old Shouka route.
Highlights & Attractions
A major link between southern and eastern Taiwan, with Shouka Cycling Rest Stop and Duoliang Station.
Typical Weather
Mountain fog and summer afternoon thunderstorms occur, while the eastern coast can be windy. Very strong winter downslope “Luoshan winds” can affect the Fenggang end, sometimes producing severe gusts.
Riding Tips
Slow down and stay stable during strong downslope winds. Standard heavy motorcycles must use the old Shouka route, which has closely spaced curves and can have leaves on the road.
