Distances between stations are approximate values calculated along the route geometry (only gas stations within 500 m of the route are counted). OpenStreetMap is edited by volunteers, so stations may be missing or closed; check business hours on site. On remote stretches, plan your fuel carefully rather than relying on this data alone.
Elevation Profile (Guanxi ⇄ Zhuolan; highest approx. 421 m, lowest approx. 56 m)
The horizontal axis is distance along the route; the vertical axis is elevation (the height scale is exaggerated, so slopes look steeper than they are). Dots mark cameras (tappable) and stations. Elevation is estimated from AWS terrain data; tunnel and bridge sections are interpolated between their ends, so errors of several tens of meters are possible. For planning reference only.
Map
After opening the map, use the buttons to toggle layers. Dot colors follow the estimated road surface; tap a dot to see weather and the camera. Rainfall, temperature, and wind are from the nearest station to each point; road surface moisture is an estimate. Gas stations, stores, restaurants, and attractions come from OpenStreetMap and only include places near the route; check business hours and conditions on site. For closures and traffic control, rely on the Highway Bureau live traffic information ↗. The route line runs from Guanxi to Zhuolan, joined from the OpenStreetMap road network. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors.
Items labeled “Scenic Live Stream” are YouTube live streams from scenic area headquarters under the Tourism Administration. They show scenery, not the road surface, so they are only useful for checking the sky, clouds, and sea conditions. Streams occasionally go offline or change address.

This roughly 90-km section of Highway 3 runs from Guanxi, Hsinchu County, to Zhuolan, Miaoli County, via Hengshan, Beipu, Emei, Sanwan, Shitan, and Wenshui/Dahu. Hakka towns and flowing curves make it a favorite weekend cruising route. Gradients are generally gentle around Shitan and Dahu, but weekend motorcycle traffic, tour buses, and farm vehicles can be heavy. Roads may be slippery after rain. Eight Highway Bureau cameras cover the route; Guanxi, Beipu, and Shitan also use nearby weather stations.
Highlights & Attractions
Part of Taiwan’s Romantic Highway 3 corridor, favored for relaxed big-bike cruising, wider lanes, and gentle bends. Stops include Sanwan’s bald cypress trees, Shitan Old Street, and Dahu Winery.
Typical Weather
Generally moderate conditions, but summer can be hot and humid with afternoon convective thunderstorms.
Riding Tips
Automated traffic enforcement is common. Slow down and keep engine noise down when passing through towns such as Shitan.
