Distances between stations are approximate values calculated along the route geometry (only gas stations within 500 m of the route are counted). OpenStreetMap is edited by volunteers, so stations may be missing or closed; check business hours on site. On remote stretches, plan your fuel carefully rather than relying on this data alone.
Elevation Profile (Ailan Interchange ⇄ Wushe; highest approx. 1158 m, lowest approx. 416 m)
The horizontal axis is distance along the route; the vertical axis is elevation (the height scale is exaggerated, so slopes look steeper than they are). Dots mark cameras (tappable) and stations. Elevation is estimated from AWS terrain data; tunnel and bridge sections are interpolated between their ends, so errors of several tens of meters are possible. For planning reference only.
Map
After opening the map, use the buttons to toggle layers. Dot colors follow the estimated road surface; tap a dot to see weather and the camera. Rainfall, temperature, and wind are from the nearest station to each point; road surface moisture is an estimate. Gas stations, stores, restaurants, and attractions come from OpenStreetMap and only include places near the route; check business hours and conditions on site. For closures and traffic control, rely on the Highway Bureau live traffic information ↗. The route line runs from Ailan Interchange to Wushe, joined from the OpenStreetMap road network. The Puli–Wushe Highway is a roughly 26-km stretch of Highway 14 from Puli in Nantou County to Wushe in Ren’ai Township. Starting around Ailan Interchange at the Puli end of National Freeway 6, it follows the Mei River past Guanyin Falls and Renzhiguan and climbs to Wushe, around 1,150 m above sea level. At Wushe, Highway 14A continues toward Qingjing and Hehuan Mountain. This is a major access road for the mountain area.
The gorge near Renzhiguan has many curves. Mountain-bound weekend traffic can be heavy, and rockfalls may occur after rain. Eight Highway Bureau cameras are available.
Highlights & Attractions
An important approach to Qingjing and Hehuan Mountain, following the Mei River past Guanyin Falls and Renzhiguan.
Typical Weather
Valley conditions are hot and humid in summer, with frequent afternoon thunderstorms.
Riding Tips
Expect tour buses and gravel trucks that may block your view through curves. Watch for rockfalls near the gorge at Renzhiguan.
