The horizontal axis is distance along the route; the vertical axis is elevation (the height scale is exaggerated, so slopes look steeper than they are). Dots mark cameras (tappable) and stations. Elevation is estimated from AWS terrain data; tunnel and bridge sections are interpolated between their ends, so errors of several tens of meters are possible. For planning reference only.
There are no public cameras along this route that can be viewed directly on the web. This page only provides weather along the route and estimated road surface moisture.

County Road 136 runs from Taiping in Taichung through Toubiankeng and Bat Cave, climbing to Chikanding before descending to Guoxing in Nantou. The section from downtown Taiping to Guoxing is about 31 km. Its changing grades and numerous bends make it popular for short hill-climbing rides. There are no publicly accessible Highway Bureau or Taichung City cameras along this section, so observations from Taiping, Toubiankeng, Bat Cave, Chikanding, Qianxi, and Guoxing are used.
Highlights & Attractions
The Toubiankeng stream valley, Bat Cave, views from Chikanding, and hillside communities toward Guoxing. Riders referring to the “136 Chikanding” climb often mean only the roughly 14.5-km uphill section from Taiping; that GPS route is not directly comparable with this page’s full 31-km route. Plan a return route when continuing toward Guoxing.
Typical Weather
Taiping and Chikanding can have very different weather. Afternoon showers are possible, and shaded bends may remain wet after rain. Leaves and fine sand can reduce grip.
Riding Tips
Grades and curve radii change quickly. Control speed on descents and avoid sudden acceleration or excessive lean on wet pavement. Watch for cyclists and allow room when passing. Do not overtake without a clear view or cross the center line. Fuel up in Taiping; mountain vendors do not have dependable hours.
