Gas Stations Along the Route (in travel order, from OpenStreetMap)
OpenStreetMap lists no gas stations along this route. There may really be none, or none may have been mapped. Check your fuel level before you leave.
Distances between stations are approximate values calculated along the route geometry (only gas stations within 500 m of the route are counted). OpenStreetMap is edited by volunteers, so stations may be missing or closed; check business hours on site. On remote stretches, plan your fuel carefully rather than relying on this data alone.
Elevation Profile (Ruifang ⇄ Shuangxi Gongguan; highest approx. 525 m, lowest approx. 22 m)
The horizontal axis is distance along the route; the vertical axis is elevation (the height scale is exaggerated, so slopes look steeper than they are). Dots mark cameras (tappable) and stations. Elevation is estimated from AWS terrain data; tunnel and bridge sections are interpolated between their ends, so errors of several tens of meters are possible. For planning reference only.
Map
After opening the map, use the buttons to toggle layers. Dot colors follow the estimated road surface; tap a dot to see weather and the camera. Rainfall, temperature, and wind are from the nearest station to each point; road surface moisture is an estimate. Gas stations, stores, restaurants, and attractions come from OpenStreetMap and only include places near the route; check business hours and conditions on site. For closures and traffic control, rely on the Highway Bureau live traffic information ↗. The route line runs from Ruifang to Shuangxi Gongguan, joined from the OpenStreetMap road network. Provincial Highway 102 runs about 22 km from Ruifang via Jiufen, Buyan Pavilion, and Mudan to Shuangxi. The mountain-and-sea views around Buyan Pavilion and the autumn silvergrass are especially well known. This is a good half-day mountain sightseeing route, often combined with Jiufen and Jinguashi.
No Highway Bureau camera is located directly on Highway 102. This page uses a Highway 2D camera near Ruifang, two New Taipei City cameras on Ruijin Highway near Jiufen (viewable on phones or computers connected within Taiwan), and a Highway 2C camera near Gongguan on the Shuangxi side. Buyan Pavilion itself has no live camera; check on-site conditions.
Highlights & Attractions
- Jiufen: Historic hillside streets, often crowded. Jinguashi is reached by a separate road, not directly on Highway 102.
- Buyan Pavilion: Panoramic ridge views toward the mountains, sea, and Shuangxi Valley; silvergrass in autumn. Park only in designated places, never at bends or on the roadside.
- Mudan and Shuangxi: Mountain settlements near Sandiaoling and places to eat or rest in downtown Shuangxi.
Typical Weather
Northeastern mountains are humid. Northeast monsoon conditions in fall and winter often bring fog and drizzle, sometimes covering the ridge completely even when the coast below is sunny. Exposed sections are windy. Shaded curves, fallen leaves, and moss can remain slick after rainfall. Turn back if visibility is too poor rather than pushing on to a viewpoint.
Riding Tips
Weekend visitors, buses, parked vehicles, and narrow streets require care around Jiufen. Watch for pedestrians and vehicles stopping or making U-turns around Buyan Pavilion. There are many curves toward Shuangxi; use headlights in fog, slow down, and do not pass in blind curves or cross the center line. Fuel up in Ruifang and plan to refuel in Shuangxi; do not depend on mountain shops for essential supplies.
