Gas Stations Along the Route (in travel order, from OpenStreetMap)
- ⛽ Gas Station
Distances between stations are approximate values calculated along the route geometry (only gas stations within 500 m of the route are counted). OpenStreetMap is edited by volunteers, so stations may be missing or closed; check business hours on site. On remote stretches, plan your fuel carefully rather than relying on this data alone.
Elevation Profile (Yuli ⇄ Ningpu, Changbin; highest approx. 409 m, lowest approx. 17 m)
The horizontal axis is distance along the route; the vertical axis is elevation (the height scale is exaggerated, so slopes look steeper than they are). Dots mark cameras (tappable) and stations. Elevation is estimated from AWS terrain data; tunnel and bridge sections are interpolated between their ends, so errors of several tens of meters are possible. For planning reference only.
Map
After opening the map, use the buttons to toggle layers. Dot colors follow the estimated road surface; tap a dot to see weather and the camera. Rainfall, temperature, and wind are from the nearest station to each point; road surface moisture is an estimate. Gas stations, stores, restaurants, and attractions come from OpenStreetMap and only include places near the route; check business hours and conditions on site. For closures and traffic control, rely on the Highway Bureau live traffic information ↗. The route line runs from Yuli to Ningpu, Changbin, joined from the OpenStreetMap road network. Yuchang Highway is the Highway 30 connection from Yuli, Hualien, across the Coastal Mountain Range through Yuchang Tunnel to Ningpu in Changbin, Taitung. The page covers about 21 km from downtown Yuli to Ningpu, while the mountain section commonly called Yuchang Highway is around 16 km; Yuchang Tunnel is about 2.66 km long. This is a convenient link between Highway 9 in the Rift Valley and Highway 11 along the coast, making it easy to plan a loop.
There are no Highway Bureau cameras on the Yuchang section itself. This page shows cameras near the ends at Yuli (Highway 9) and Ningpu, Changbin (Highway 11), and weather near Antong and Yuchang Tunnel. The tunnel has no direct camera or station coverage; follow actual conditions.
Highlights & Attractions
Yuli and Antong Hot Springs (check facility hours). Descending from the tunnel toward the east reveals the Pacific. On Highway 11, Shitiping and Shiyusan are to the north, while Changbin and Sanxiantai are to the south; these are separate destinations, not roadside stops on Yuchang Highway. Near the Yuli tunnel entrance, use designated parking if stopping for valley or cloud views.
Typical Weather
The two sides of the Coastal Mountain Range can have different conditions. Sunny weather in the valley may coexist with coastal rain or wind. Fog may affect the Yuli side, while Changbin is more exposed to sea winds. Light, temperature, and wind change quickly at tunnel exits. Wet road surfaces and glare are possible after emerging in rain. Check official controls after typhoons, heavy rain, or earthquakes.
Riding Tips
Adjust gradually to large light changes when entering or leaving the tunnel; avoid sudden braking or lane changes. Do not stop, reverse, or overtake unsafely in the tunnel. Curves continue downhill toward Changbin, so slow down in wet weather. Refuel and rest in Yuli or Changbin before long connections to Highway 9 or 11.
